57 Ruger Review - The FN P90 was a carbine developed for NATO as a fully automatic Personal Defense Weapon (PDW) for couriers and drivers.
A small piece that is more effective than a pistol is very effective. It's easy to handle and close up, and covers most body armor with an initial charge.

An alternative platform, the Five-seveN pistol, was introduced later. There is a big difference between a single-shot pistol and a fully automatic cheek-welded carbine.

Similarly, the pistol gained a certain popularity. It's expensive and not well designed for quick deployment, but it's accurate and reliable.
Ruger decided that a pistol that was cheaper to build and had better ergonomics than the FN rifle would sell well in this limited niche market.
The pistol is in most cases an extended Security 9. The Security 9 is a reliable, useful, and affordable pistol.
The safety is easy to operate and the pistol has a safety grip on the trigger. The frame is made of polymer, and the slider is made of steel.

Adjustable sights close the slide. The action is single-action and the pistol has a hammer rather than a striker, a rarity in newer introductions.
The barrel, like the slide, is finished in black oxide. Barrel length is 4.94 inches. The back has a slot to accommodate a bottle neck cartridge.
The recoil spring is stronger than expected. Plus, the gun is light at only 25 ounces. Like most modern handguns, the pistol appears to be built around the magazine.
The magazine holds 20 cartridges. Do not attempt to load this magazine in the normal pistol loading manner by pushing the cartridge under the feed lip.

Press 5.7x28mm rounds straight down into the GI magazine like an AR-15 round.
The rear sight is fully adjustable, a nice feature on a gun that is good for long-range pistol accuracy. The front view is a tall column.
A green fiber optic sight provides excellent visibility. At six o'clock the gun came out of the box at 25 yards.
The Ruger has a removable plate that makes it easy to install the red dot sight. The disc must be ordered from the Ruger website.

The rifle hits the target faster than the FN. Quick control of the FN safety in front of the grip is not easy.
But enough of those comparisons, let's get to the Ruger's merits. The top of the slide has a long GLOCK long slide style cut in place to ease the slide.
Front sprockets are easy to use. The grip is long but narrow depending on the size of the cartridge, but is manageable for most hand sizes.
A slight adjustment of the arm is required to release the slide and magazine. The rifle would not have been handled in a heavier caliber, but there were no complaints during the shooting.

"What do you do with a gun?" A question may arise. I'm past the point where every handgun should have a clearly defined purpose. This is a very fun gun.
It's also useful for those who need a defensive handgun but can't stand the recoil. It's a powerful enough pistol that doesn't suffer from the disadvantages of unreliable ammunition.
The American Eagle load breaks at 1700 fps and the FN load with the Hornady V-Max bullet is just over 1700 fps.
The V-Max shaft broke in 18 inches of water and most of the fragments remained in the second six inches. It's an interesting performance, but not one I'd want in my personal defense.
New Ruger 57 Pistol
We expect the new Speer Gold Dot load to take the 5.7x28mm to another level. The 5.7x28mm bottle cartridge is 1.594 inches long.
This cartridge is not that long, but it is long compared to the .45 ACP 1250 inch cartridge. .223 Remington 2.25-inch, 40-grain V-Max.
So, 5.7x28 mm is a long cartridge for a pistol. Recoil is simple, no bigger than a .22 Magnum revolver.
A 5.7 pistol with 20 rounds and a good trigger and good accuracy produces the same energy as a .22 Magnum rifle at 100 yards.
Ruger 57 Tungsten 5.7
It's a great pest and coin rifle, but questionable on a coyote beyond 50 yards. For defense, this is a great pistol for those who can't handle the recoil.
I shot mostly Federal American Eagle loads. I ate the x-ring on man-sized targets at seven, 10 and 15 yards.
You can quickly create small groups. I don't think groups save lives, but the pistol is easy to use. It's not hard to move quickly between targets.
It's clean burning and accurate loading. Several errors occurred while feeding the last cartridge. I don't think I loaded the magazine correctly and it was consistent with each magazine.

Maybe you should go into it. The gun performed well on the battlefield, and I was able to hit it over 50 yards and into small dirt patches.
Shooting at targets at known and unknown distances builds skill. 5.7x28mm is a smoothbore. Moving on to the accuracy test, I shot several five-shot groups at 25 yards.
The best single five-shot group was 2.2 inches, the worst was 3.2 inches. It's not exactly Hi-Power or 1911 accuracy, but it's accurate enough for most home tasks.
Although the pistol is considered a fun gun, the Ruger 57 is certainly useful for a number of household tasks.
Ruger 57 Semi Automatic Pistol For Sale
A few years ago, the .22 Jet didn't cut it as a revolver cartridge due to recoil issues in the chambers. The Ruger 5.7 solves this dilemma in a beautiful and stylish way.
It is cheaper than the FN pistol and is at least comparable, if not better, in all aspects. In a niche market, Ruger has cornered the market.
I ordered a Galco Concealable Belt Holster for my Ruger 57. This holster is perfect for larger guns.
It has a high ride and an FBI slope. It should be noted that this allowed the trained shooter to comfortably carry the pistol and achieve a fast draw speed.

This box is a new design from Ruger. There is no doubt which company made this gun. I like it. It's different, bright, shiny, billboard style.
So, when I opened the box, I was ready to be impressed. After all, if the gun was half as impressive as the box, we'd be pretty cool. I was not disappointed. I was ready to take this blaster apart and find the modern equivalent of Buck Roger's U-235 Atomic Ray Gun.
The Ruger was nothing like it, but I'm sure it was at least as powerful. After all, 5.7×28 is considered by some to be one small atomic circle.
